Apprentice Chef

No live-in or VISA sponsorship.

You must live locally or be able to reliably commute to Grassington.

Pay from: £22000.00 per annum (pro-rata)

Ideal for someone committed to building a long-term career as a chef, this Commis Chef Apprentice role offers a blend of practical kitchen experience and formal study, leading to a Level 2 Commis Chef qualification.

We’re looking for someone with a genuine passion for food - both British and international cuisine - and a strong desire to learn. You’ll gain all-round experience from a skilled and supportive team while developing your skills across all areas of the kitchen.

This apprenticeship is a fantastic entry point into professional cookery and could lead to more senior roles, such as Chef de Partie (Level 3) and beyond.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Learning the best practices for operating a professional kitchen.
  • Prepping ingredients and components for our menu.
  • Cooking and serving dishes from our menu and daily specials.
  • Mastering food safety, health, and hygiene standards.
  • Learning the importance of monitoring and due diligence in the kitchen.
  • Helping the rest of the team with daily cleaning tasks such as dishwashing and clean stations.
  • Building a portfolio of work with dishes demonstrating your ability and skills in your daily role.
  • Weekly attendance at Craven College during term-time - one full day every week from September/October 2026, as well as occasional attendance at college for workshops and revision.

Working Week: 40 hours per week hours including one day a week at Craven College, Skipton. Shift work is on a rota and issued 2 weeks in advance and will be different shifts between the hours of Monday to Sunday 8am until 9.30pm.

Qualifications: GCSE Math and English minimum grade 2 will be required to be eligible to apply for this apprenticeship. In the event you do not have your GCSE you may be able to study for these subjects in functional skills alongside the apprenticeship.

Things to Consider:

  • Rota’s are issued by Head Chef two weeks in advance so you need to be prepared to work different shifts between the hours of Monday to Sunday 7.30am – 9.30pm.
  • Attendance at Craven College, Skipton will be required so ability to travel will be essential.
  • You MUST BE free from full time education to be eligible to apply for an apprenticeship.
  • You MUST BE resident in the UK for a minimum of 3 years prior to the start of learning and have work authorisation for the UK.
  • Minimum of 12-month apprenticeship period.
  • There is a possibility to progress to a Chef de Partie Level 3 Apprenticeship on successful completion of the Commis Chef Level 2.

Further Information: Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £8.00 per hour (As of the 1st April 2026). This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16 to 18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum Wage appropriate to their ages applies.
